HavingwitnessedhisjunkiefatherkilledRussellStevensgrowsuptobecomeapolicemanandmakeadifference.WhenheisofferedanundercoverjobbyGeraldCarverheacceptsandbeginstobuildarelationshipwithDavidJasoninordertogettothemaindealers.Howeverasheisforcedtodealdrugsandkilltokeephiscoverhefindsthelinesbetweencopandcriminalbeinglost–isheacoppretendingtobeadealeroradealerpretendingtobeacop?Larry(ashewasthen)Fishburne'sfirstleadrolewasatypicallydarkvehicle.Thestoryistheusualoneofcoplosinghimselfwhenundercover,howeveritmanagestobemorethanthatformostofthetime.Co-writtenbyTolkin,whowroteThePlayer,thisnaturallyhasanicecynicaledgetoitwhenitlooksattheUS'shypocriticalapproachtodrugcontrolandthepoliticallinksbetweenthestreethustlersandthepoliticalhighrollerswhocourtrespectability.Thestorydoeseventuallysettleintoatraditionalsettingbuteventhenitworkswellasathriller.Themulti-talentedBillDukedirectswellwithagrittyfeelandafewnicetouches.Howeverseveralthingsareabitiffy.FormostofthefilmFishburne'snarration/voiceoverisabitlikeacrossbetweenApocalypseNowandBladeRunner–itcomesacrossasalittletoodarkandheavyandalsoexplainsthingslikewecan'tfigureitoutourselves.Howeveronceyougetintothefilmit'snotasbigadeal.Mymainproblemlieswiththecharacters.Fishburneisexcellent,arealmodelofunderlyingangerandviolence,GoldblumisgoodbutperhapsalittleOTTontheyuppie/violencething,butthere'sgoodsupportfromSmithandSpinCity'sbeautiful(andoftenunderused–butnothere)VictoriaDillard.Howeverthetwomainwhitecharacters(GoldblumandSmith)arebothsmearedwithracistinsinuations–Smithappearstoinsulthisblackofficersanddoesn'tcareaboutthejunkies,whileGoldblumisfascinatedaboutallthingsblackandtalksaboutthemaswildbeautifulbeastsandloveshavingsexwith"black'.Thesethingsaren'tamajorproblem,butwithbasicallyonlytwowhitecharactersinit,it'salittleworryingthatbotharegiventhatedge.Howevertheseareminorcomplaintsthatgetlostwithagoodthriller.FishburneexcelsandDukedeliversastorythatisagoodthrillerbutalsohasajaded,subversiveedge.

山姆（马修•布罗德里克饰）深爱的未婚妻琳达（凯莉•普雷斯顿饰），琳达却移情别恋毅然与他分手了。山姆没想到自己的无限量牺牲换不来女友的珍惜。山姆不愿就此放手，于是他在琳达与新男友安东尼的新居附近租下了房子，企图日夜监视琳达的生活，继续了解琳达是生活并希望琳达会有回心转意的一天。山姆认识了邻居玛姬（梅格•瑞安饰），原来玛姬也是在监视自己的前男友，她的前男友竟然是琳达的新欢安东尼。两人竟然会一起通过望远镜看到了自己的前女友与前男友的缠绵生活，愤怒不已的玛姬竟然想到要联合山姆一起报复安东尼……

　　老兵泰利（塞缪尔·杰克逊 Samuel L. Jackson 饰）面临着即将到来的审判，在审判中，他被指控在一次保护大使的行动中对示威群众发起了攻击，导致了近80名手无寸铁的无辜平民丧生。面对这一指控，泰利坚持自己的无辜，因为他知道那些示威者并非手无寸铁，也是他们首先向大使馆发起了进攻。
　　很快泰利就发现，所有的迹象都表明泰利处于劣势地位。在审判结果还未揭露之前，政府和军方似乎就已经将这起事件当做了一出丑闻，他们不仅伪造了证词，更是消抹了一切对泰利有利的证据。面对这个阴谋，泰利并不准备束手就擒，他联系了旧时的战友海斯律师（汤米·李·琼斯 Tommy Lee Jones 饰），希望在他的帮助下能够重获清白。
