本片改编自同名小说，讲述了主人公·梓失去了无可替代的挚友而止步不前，她不断给已故好友发送信息，由此开始，意想不到的邂逅接连发生，形成了一个巨大的圈子…

故事发生在1897年的美国西部，青年科菲（卡尔·盖瑞KarlGeary饰）正在经历自己一生中最美好的时光——他即将迎娶自己心爱的女孩。不幸的是，噩耗传来了，未婚妻一家人在不明物体的袭击中全部丧命，场面混乱，死状甚惨。在这样残酷的现实面前，悲愤交加的科菲发誓不找到凶手誓不罢休。科菲加入了当地的搜查队，成为了亨利（道格·休切逊DougHutchison饰）的下属。刚开始，科菲以为凶手是凶残的印第安土著，可经过一番调查之后，他发现事实并非如此。随着调查的深入，越来越多的线索显现了出来，然而这些线索无一不指向一个事实，那就是在他们所居住的这片土地之下，存在着一种非常非常可怕的异种生物。

根据多个真实矿工场爆炸事件改编，讲述位于阿帕拉契山脉中地下两英里的矿工场，被困的九位矿工仅有一小时含氧量的氧气瓶，他们该如何逃出生天？

　　本（弗雷德里克·劳 Frederick Lau 饰）和大卫（大卫·史崔梭德 Devid Striesow 饰）是情同手足的兄弟，两人和母亲过着相依为命的生活。和普通人不一样，大卫虽然表面上是一位22岁的青年，可是他的心智却如同三岁小孩。这么多年来，本和大卫之间的感情非常的要好，在生活的方方面面，大卫都得到了本的精心照拂，如果没有本，大卫可能会过上和现在有着天壤之别的生活。
　　一场意外中，两兄弟的母亲过世了。按照法律条款，大卫要被送到福利所，他在那里的日子可想而知，于是，本带着大卫踏上了旅途，他们的目的只有一个，那就是寻找他们失踪多年的亲生父亲。

『マークスの山』（マークスのやま）は、高村薫の小説。1993年に早川書房から単行本が刊行され、2003年に改稿版が講談社文庫に収録された。高村はこの作品で第109回（1993年上半期）直木賞を受賞している。南アルプス夜叉神峠で起こった親子心中事件で生き残った少年が、その後成長して「マークス」を名乗り、連続殺人を犯す。「マークス」には、ある事件に関係するキーワードが隠されていた。
